The Carers Trust has published a best practice guide to aid GPs in identifying carers. The Charity estimates there there are an estimated 7 million unpaid carers in the UK but not enough are receiving the support that they need or are entitled to.
One of the main obstacles to carers getting the right support is identification – both self identification
and identification by health professionals; the guide hopes to address some of the latter.
The document identifies areas where initiatives have been taken forward successfully to help with identification and also to mainstream carer support into primary care.
